GAY PEOPLE'S CHRONICLE 15

New 'Survivor' series has another gay contestant

by John Graves

One of the 16 contestants on CBS' latest installment of its hit reality game show, Sur'vivor: Africa, is Brandon Quinton, a 25-yearold an openly gay bartender from Dallas, Texas.

According to his biography on the show's web site, Quinton was born in Ada, Oklahoma but relocated frequently as the family moved while his father served in the Army. Before becoming a bartender, Quinton worked as a makeup artist at a major depart-

ment store.

Quinton, who attended East Central University in Ada but dropped out his sophomore year, describes himself as affectionate, smart, and manipulative, and said his hobbies are playing tennis, running, and smoking.

The currently unattached Quinton was married to a woman when he was in college but has since divorced and come out as a gay

man.

Bianca needs a honey

Soap actress Eden Riegel told Soap Opera Weekly (October 2) it's about time her character, Bianca, the teenage lesbian on All My Children, had a love interest.

With her only love interest so far being a failed, mostly off-screen romance with Sarah and a hopeless (so far) crush on Greenlee, Riegel said, "I'd like Bianca to have new things going on in her life. She's been there for a lot of people, and she has been putting herself second. It's time to put herself first and really think about how to redefine her life and make it more fulfilling."

"Bianca is a very brave person," Riegel added, "She's no shrinking violet, and she

doesn't deserve to be kept down by people she thought were her friends." 76ers star drops his rap album

Philadelphia 76ers basketball star Allen Iverson has decided not to release his controversial new rap album Non-Fiction.

"40 Bars," one of the songs on the album, drew a lot of criticism when it was released as a single earlier this year for its negative references to women and gays and its apparent endorsement of violent behavior.

Even though he offered an apology of sorts after the single's release, Iverson told USA Today October 2, "I'm through with it. It was a childhood dream of mine, just like basketball. But I feel people took it the wrong way. It kind of took all the excitement out of it." Lana Turner remembered

Lana Turner's lesbian daughter Cheryl Crane reminisces about her mother in the cable biography Lana Turner: A Daughter's Memoir, now playing on the Turner Classic Movie Channel.

Crane will then co-host a film festival of 32 Lana Turner films that will run on TCM throughout the month of October.

A stronger Willow

Look for a stronger presence for Willow, the lesbian witch on Buffy the Vampire Slayer as the show begins its new season on a new network, UPN.

Since Buffy was killed off on the show's WB finale, it was a now telepathic Willow, played by Alice Hannigan, who took over leadership of the Scooby gang, and it is Willow who resurrected Buffy.

According to Entertainment Weekly's Ken Tucker (October 5), a few brief scenes in the

second half of the season premiere indicate "the producers aren't going to shy away from the ongoing romance between Willow and Tara" (Amber Benson).

'Britney Spears for older gay men'

Korean-American bisexual comic Marga-

Has TV changed since the days of her short-lived sitcom All American Girl? "Slightly. There's a lot more opportunity for gays in television, things like Queer as Folk, and Six Feet Under fucking rocks. But racially, I don't think it's changed at all."

ret Cho talked to Entertainment Weekly OcCongratulations to the best

tober 5 about her return to television with the Sundance Channel production of her 1999 stand-up tour "I'm the One that I Want," her commentary on the PBS educational series Life 360 and her new stand-up tour, The Notorious C.H.O.

When the magazine pointed out the tour's sendup of a rapper's name, Cho said, “I love rap. I think that's the next wave of feminism: female rappers. It's this power that is not so about men and not defined by men."

Asked about who she sees in her audience, Cho quipped, "I feel sometimes like Britney Spears for the older gay gentlemen. It's gay men and women. It's people of color. It's young people. It's hipsters. It's really cool straight guys."
